Starlink has extended free internet connectivity to Sri Lanka in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah, providing crucial support to citizens and authorities facing severe flooding and infrastructure damage. Effective through December 2025, the initiative ensures uninterrupted access for existing users, while suspended or paused accounts can reactivate immediately. New users can qualify by submitting a support ticket citing “Sri Lanka Flood Support.”
The satellite service enables emergency coordination, public information flow, and humanitarian assistance in areas where traditional broadband has been disrupted. Experts note that the initiative also strengthens rural connectivity, supporting telemedicine, e-learning, and remote work.
Observers highlight that former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had actively promoted the introduction of Starlink in Sri Lanka despite opposition criticism. Today’s deployment underscores the long-term value of international tech partnerships and strategic planning, demonstrating how technology can enhance national disaster preparedness and resilience in an era of increasing climate-related emergencies.
