Sri Lanka’s telecom network is undergoing urgent restoration after the cyclone–flood disaster that damaged fibre backbones and disabled transmission sites across several provinces. Major operators Dialog Axiata, SLT-Mobitel, and Hutch—have deployed emergency teams to restore power, rebuild damaged infrastructure, and reactivate key hubs. The TRCSL is coordinating daily with operators and the Ceylon Electricity Board to fast-track generator deployment and ensure priority access for engineers.
International partners have strengthened the recovery effort. Huawei Technologies Lanka has mobilised more than 80 engineers to assist network repairs, while Starlink has provided satellite internet terminals to reestablish connectivity in areas cut off from fibre and mobile networks. Operators also extended free mobile services until 2 December to support affected families and relief agencies.
With several regions still experiencing intermittent disruptions, officials say full restoration may take time as on-ground teams work to stabilise damaged sites and rebuild critical links.
