Sri Lanka’s Litro Gas Lanka has awarded its 2026 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply contract to Switzerland-based Geo Gas Trading SA, raising industry questions over the selection of a first-time supplier.
The Cabinet approved the deal to procure 380,000 metric tonnes, with a ±20% variation, following an international tender.
Five companies submitted bids, but only two qualified after the technical evaluation. Geo Gas emerged the winner, with Litro officials confirming the firm sources most of its LPG from the United States.
Litro Chairman Channa Gunawardana said the company is working with Geo Gas for the first time, noting the change aligns with shifting global supply patterns.
However, the award has drawn fresh attention due to Litro’s past procurement controversies, including a 2023 audit that flagged concerns over deviations from selecting the lowest bidder.
Industry analysts now await further clarity on Geo Gas’s technical credentials and long-term reliability.
