Litro Awards 2026 LPG Supply to Swiss Firm

Litro Gas Lanka has awarded its 2026 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply contract to Switzerland-based Geo Gas Trading SA, following Cabinet approval, covering 380,000 metric tonnes with a ±20 percent variation. The 12-month contract, starting January 2026, will meet Sri Lanka’s entire domestic LPG demand.

Litro officials said the contract was awarded after an international competitive tender in which five bidders participated, with only two qualifying at the technical evaluation stage. Geo Gas Trading SA is a new supplier to Sri Lanka and is expected to source most LPG cargoes from the United States.

The decision has sparked objections from long-time supplier Oman Trading International, which has reportedly protested the cancellation of its existing arrangement without a requested three-month extension. The development has reignited debate over transparency, supplier experience and transition planning in the procurement of essential energy supplies.
