The Planters’ Association of Ceylon (PA) said Regional Plantation Companies acted swiftly to protect estate workers and nearby communities following Cyclone Ditwah, activating emergency protocols and coordinating with State authorities to relocate families from high-risk areas.
While access routes and basic services are gradually returning to normal, the PA said detailed assessments of damage to estate housing, infrastructure, and cultivations are still underway with support from the Plantation Human Development Trust and Government agencies.
RPCs continue to provide food, temporary shelter, and medical assistance, with special attention to vulnerable groups. Estate medical teams remain alert to post-disaster health risks.
The PA stressed that beyond immediate relief, the cyclone highlights the need for longer-term investment in climate resilience, housing, and infrastructure to safeguard livelihoods and ensure the plantation sector’s sustainability amid increasingly extreme weather conditions.
