India has reaffirmed its commitment to support Sri Lanka’s recovery from Cyclone Ditwah, with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar delivering a special letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
In the letter, Prime Minister Modi said India had activated ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’ under its Neighbourhood First and First Responder commitments, deploying ships, aircraft, and helicopters to deliver relief supplies and emergency materials. Indian teams also assisted in search and rescue operations, medical response, and restoration of communications and connectivity.
As Sri Lanka moves from emergency relief to rehabilitation, India has pledged continued and comprehensive assistance, with Dr. Jaishankar tasked to discuss implementation details with the Sri Lankan Government. India said it would stand “shoulder to shoulder” with Sri Lanka in rebuilding lives and strengthening resilience after the cyclone.
