As Sri Lanka prepares to welcome the world’s gem and jewellery trade to FACETS Sri Lanka 2026, industry leaders acknowledge a persistent challenge behind the glitter slow implementation of policy reforms needed to support growth and competitiveness.
Opening on January 3 at Cinnamon Life, Colombo, the 33rd edition of FACETS once again demonstrates the private sector’s ability to sustain global engagement.
FACETS Chairman Armil Samoon said the exhibition remains a vital platform for trade and collaboration.
Organised by the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA), the exhibition showcases the depth and diversity of the industry, from mining and cutting to manufacturing and design.
However, exporters continue to point to delays in regulatory reforms, licensing processes and export facilitation as obstacles, particularly at a time when competing gem markets are moving faster with streamlined systems and stronger state support.
SLGJA President Akram Cassim has emphasised that meeting the industry’s 2026 targets—higher exports, increased value addition and SME growth will require policy alignment with market realities.
