An embarrassing lapse in oversight has forced the Ministry of Education to immediately suspend the distribution of a newly printed Grade 6 English language module after it was found to contain a reference to an inappropriate website.
According to the Ministry, the error came to light following a formal complaint that flagged the inclusion of a website name deemed unsuitable for schoolchildren. Once the allegation was verified, authorities moved swiftly to halt circulation of the material and launch an internal investigation.
The module was developed by the National Institute of Education and had already gone to print before the issue was detected raising serious questions about the quality control mechanisms governing curriculum development and textbook approval.
In a further escalation, the Ministry indicated that it expects to lodge a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) tomorrow, signaling that the matter may extend beyond administrative negligence into potential legal accountability.
The incident has sparked concern among parents and educators alike, underscoring vulnerabilities in the education system’s content review process and the risks posed when safeguards fail—especially in materials intended for young students.
