Sri Lanka, UK Strengthen Trade Ties at London Forum

The Sri Lanka–United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce in London, together with the Sri Lanka High Commission in the UK, hosted a panel discussion on strengthening bilateral trade relations at the High Commission in London on 27 January 2026.

The forum highlighted the UK’s role as Sri Lanka’s second-largest export market and a key investment partner. Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the UK, Nimal Senadheera, encouraged businesses to utilise the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme, particularly the newly relaxed Rules of Origin for apparel exports.

UK Trade Envoy to Sri Lanka, Lord John Hannett OBE, underscored opportunities in trade, investment and modern value chains, while Board of Investment Chairman Arjuna Herath outlined Sri Lanka’s growth ambitions and improving investment climate.

The event also featured a presentation on Sri Lanka Expo 2026, scheduled for June in Colombo, and concluded with networking discussions on tourism, IT, global value chains and investment opportunities.
