The Cabinet of Ministers has approved Rs. 150 million to implement the e-Court Project as part of Sri Lanka’s judicial digitalisation drive. The funds, allocated from the Clean Sri Lanka Project, will be provided to the Judicial Service Commission to expand electronic court services across the country.
The initiative follows the introduction of a website and electronic Case Management System at the Supreme Court and aims to extend similar systems to all courts, including the Court of Appeal and judicial institutions. According to Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, the project seeks to address case delays, data gaps and procedural inefficiencies.
Justice Ministry sources say the e-Court model will allow electronic filing, digital record management and, where appropriate, remote participation in hearings. Officials note that the reform aligns with the IMF Reform Agenda 2026–2030 and is expected to improve access to justice amid an estimated backlog of 800,000 pending cases nationwide.
