Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties as he addressed a Spring Festival celebration in Colombo on Sunday.
Speaking at the “Celebrating Chinese New Year with Warmth and Joy” event at the Shangri-La Hotel, Ambassador Qi highlighted China’s economic progress and expanding cooperation with Sri Lanka under the Belt and Road Initiative.
He cited flagship projects such as the Colombo Port City and Hambantota Port as key contributors to Sri Lanka’s development.
The envoy also noted China’s humanitarian assistance, including aid following Cyclone Ditwah and donations of school uniform materials for four consecutive years. He said high-level exchanges between Chinese and Sri Lankan leaders had provided strategic direction for future collaboration.
Ambassador Qi expressed hope that China-Sri Lanka friendship would continue to grow stronger, pledging continued support for practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges in the Year of the Horse.
