Colombo Dockyard PLC has reinforced its leadership in specialized marine engineering by securing new contracts for underwater restaurant structures in the Maldives, signed in December 2025. The agreements follow a series of successful underwater construction projects completed for leading Maldivian resorts over the past decade.
The dockyard gained international recognition after delivering its first underwater restaurant in 2018, followed by the Maldives’ largest 50-seat underwater dining facility in 2022. In 2025, two additional underwater structures including the newly opened “Bubble Underwater Restaurant”—were completed, further expanding CDPLC’s niche portfolio.
Company officials say the dockyard is now targeting underwater restaurants, villas, and bungalows for high-capacity resorts, aligning with its Strategic Growth and Innovation Programme. The projects are expected to generate foreign exchange earnings and strengthen Sri Lanka’s export-oriented heavy engineering sector.
