Colombo Port City has entered 2026 with renewed momentum as the flagship development transitions into full-scale commercial operations, reinforcing its role in Sri Lanka’s economic recovery strategy. The 269-hectare project, developed by CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd., has moved beyond land reclamation and policy formulation to active business engagement and infrastructure readiness.
A major milestone was achieved in late 2025 with the commissioning of water, electricity, and sewerage connections to Colombo’s main utility grid, enabling uninterrupted commercial activity and vertical construction. The Colombo Port City Special Economic Zone, established under the 2021 Economic Commission Act, has attracted 146 registered enterprises focused primarily on financial services, IT, logistics, and professional service exports.
Key developments such as the Mall at Port City Colombo, South Asia’s first downtown duty-free retail destination, and the operational Business Centre have enhanced investor and consumer interest. As Sri Lanka navigates economic stabilisation, Port City’s performance in 2026 is expected to play a growing role in driving foreign investment, employment, and modern service-led growth.
