GovPay Crosses Rs. 2 Billion as Disaster Costs Rise

Sri Lanka’s Government Digital Payment Platform, GovPay, has surpassed Rs. 2 billion in total transaction value in 2025, marking rapid adoption amid rising fiscal pressures from recent cyclone-related disasters, the Ministry of Digital Economy said.

Launched in February 2025, the platform has processed over 69,000 transactions across more than 3,300 government services and 215 institutions. Officials say digital collections doubled from Rs. 1 billion to Rs. 2 billion within 45 days.

GovPay has also supported disaster response efforts, facilitating nearly Rs. 14 million in donations to the Rebuild Sri Lanka Disaster Relief Fund since late November. Meanwhile, digital traffic fine payments generated over Rs. 66 million in revenue.

Authorities say the platform improves transparency, efficiency, and revenue tracking at a time when emergency expenditure has increased following cyclone damage, with nationwide expansion continuing into 2026.
