India has completed a major humanitarian mission to Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah, deploying the largest foreign field hospital ever sent to the island under Operation Sagar Bandhu. A 78-member Indian Army medical team treated more than 7,000 patients in Mahiyanganaya, performing hundreds of procedures and multiple major surgeries.
The mission also included restoration of damaged telecommunications infrastructure and the delivery of 10 tonnes of medicines and 15 tonnes of dry rations. Sri Lanka’s Health Minister thanked India for its swift and large-scale support, while the Indian High Commission said the operation reflected New Delhi’s commitment to regional solidarity.
The relief effort reinforces India’s role as a key humanitarian and strategic partner in South Asia, particularly as climate-related disasters intensify across the region.
