India Pledges $450 Million for Sri Lanka Cyclone Recovery

India has announced a USD 450 million financial assistance package to support Sri Lanka’s recovery from Cyclone Ditvah, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said.

The package includes a USD 350 million concessional line of credit and USD 100 million in grants, aimed at rebuilding cyclone-affected infrastructure and livelihoods. Dr. Jaishankar, acting as Special Envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, handed over a letter of commitment to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The assistance will focus on restoring transport connectivity, rebuilding damaged housing, rehabilitating health and education facilities, supporting agriculture, and strengthening disaster preparedness.

India also mounted an immediate relief operation under Operation Sagar Bandhu, deploying naval vessels, air force helicopters, disaster response teams, and a field hospital. Over 1,100 tons of relief supplies and medical assistance were delivered, alongside emergency bridge construction in affected areas.
