NCE Calls for Urgent State Help as Floods Hit Exporters

The National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) has sounded an urgent alarm over the widespread floods that have disrupted production and damaged facilities across Sri Lanka’s export sector. The Chamber said many factories and supply chains have been severely affected, pushing companies into operational standstill and threatening their ability to meet overseas delivery deadlines.

NCE President Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa warned that any prolonged disruption could undermine the country’s fragile economic recovery and weaken foreign exchange earnings. He stressed that exports are central to national revenue and support hundreds of thousands of livelihoods.

NCE CEO Shiham Marikar said early reports show extensive damage to machinery, production floors, and logistics networks, with MSMEs facing the highest risk. The Chamber urged the Government to work closely with exporters to provide financial assistance, speed up repairs, and help prevent the loss of hard-earned global market access.
