Shield Opens Advanced Safety Manufacturing Plant at Wathupitiwala EPZ

Shield Restraint Systems Ltd. has officially opened a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at the Export Processing Zone in Wathupitiwala, Nittambuwa, marking a new foreign investment in Sri Lanka’s export manufacturing sector.

The USD 8.5 million project includes a 100,000 square-foot factory producing specialised safety restraint systems for global markets. Operations have commenced at an initial capacity of 10%, with plans to expand to full-scale production, creating up to 500 jobs and generating an estimated USD 50 million in annual export revenue.

Senior executives from the United States, Sri Lankan BOI officials, and representatives of the US Department of Commerce attended the opening. Company officials cited Sri Lanka’s skilled workforce and strategic location as key advantages, while calling for faster approvals and policy reforms to support future investments.
