Sri Lanka has received firm assurances of support from international development partners following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, the Finance Ministry announced yesterday.
At a special donor coordination forum, the IMF confirmed that approximately US$350 million under its sixth EFF tranche could be released within weeks to strengthen emergency financing.
Several countries have already deployed relief missions and supplied food, medical kits, drinking water, and temporary shelter materials.
Multilateral lenders expressed readiness to redirect existing loan packages for early-stage reconstruction, while the World Bank commenced a rapid post-disaster assessment to quantify losses across housing, transport, agriculture, and public infrastructure.
Initial estimates suggest economic damage may reach 1%–3% of GDP, placing additional pressure on the ongoing recovery programme. The Government urged partners to continue humanitarian support and promote tourism as efforts intensify to restore essential services and stabilise affected communities.
