Tea Exports Top $1.4 Bn in January–November Period

Sri Lanka earned an estimated $1.4 billion from tea exports during the first 11 months to November 2025, according to Sri Lanka Customs data analysed by Forbes & Walker Research. The earnings represent a 13% increase year-on-year, driven mainly by higher export volumes.

Cumulative shipments rose to 239.57 million kilograms, up from 223.22 million kilograms a year earlier, despite a modest decline in November exports. While bulk tea shipments weakened, Instant Tea and Green Tea recorded gains.

Average FOB prices showed mixed trends, strengthening in rupee terms but easing slightly in dollar terms due to exchange rate movements.

Iraq remained the largest buyer of Ceylon Tea, followed by Russia and Türkiye, while Libya more than doubled its import volumes. Industry analysts say volume growth helped offset global price pressures, keeping export earnings on an upward trajectory.
