Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is showing unexpected resilience despite significant disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditwah. Over 25,000 tourists have arrived during and after the disaster, while authorities successfully evacuated around 250 visitors from flooded regions. Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam said the rapid stabilisation reflects strong international confidence in the destination.
Tourism arrivals crossed 2.1 million in the first 11 months of 2025, with November alone recording 212,906 visitors up 16% year-on-year and the highest November figure in five years. Hotel occupancy in Colombo remained above 60%, though several coastal resorts suffered heavy structural damage, temporary closures, and service interruptions. Restoration of affected hotels, infrastructure repairs, and a global reassurance campaign are now top priorities as the sector prepares for peak-season travellers
