Vidullanka and WindForce get 100 MW Mullikulum wind power project

In line with the Government’s long-term strategy to generate 70% of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030, the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday approved awarding the contracts for the Mullikulum Wind Power Project, totalling 100 MW to two entities — a consortium of Vidullanka PLC and David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Ltd., and WindForce PLC.

The project consists of two 50 MW wind power stations, to be built, owned, and operated (BOO) with a 20-year monitoring period.

The move follows a competitive international bidding process, during which seven proposals were submitted by prospective developers.

“Based on the recommendations of a negotiation committee appointed by the Cabinet, contracts were awarded to two entitiesa consortium of Vidullanka PLC and David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Ltd., and WindForce PLC,” Cabinet Spokesman and Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Thursday.
